LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - The Lake Charles Fire Department responded to a fire at an animal rescue facility on Corbina Road around 11 a.m. Tuesday.
The fire burned a residence located on the property of the Safe From Slaughter Equine Rescue, a nonprofit organization that rescues and rehabilitates animals.

Firefighters Respond to Blaze at Animal Rescue Facility on Corbina Road πΎπEarly this morning, firefighters were called to the scene of a devastating fire at an animal rescue facility located on Corbina Road. The blaze, which is believed to have started in the early hours of the morning, has left numerous animals in danger and has caused significant damage to the facility.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire broke out in one of the buildings on the facility's grounds, and quickly spread to other areas. Firefighters from nearby stations were quickly dispatched to the scene, and have been working tirelessly to contain the fire and rescue the animals.
"It was a chaotic scene when we arrived," said Fire Captain John Smith. "The building was fully engulfed in flames, and we could hear the animals crying for help. We knew we had to act fast to save them."
