The Z8's sleek design, inspired by the 1956 BMW 507, may have seemed retro at the time of its debut in 1997, but it has since gained critical acclaim. Under the hood lies the same S62 4.9-liter naturally aspirated V-8 engine as the E39-generation BMW M5, producing 394 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. The only automatic transmission available was the later Alpina version.
