Editorial information: But when I started supply teaching in the UK five months ago, I was unprepared for the sheer chaos that ensued. On my third day, a cheeky 10-year-old had the audacity to tell me to "p--- off," highlighting the grim reality of being a teacher in this country.

It's no secret that teacher morale is at an all-time low, with nearly half of school leaders in England seeking support for their mental health or wellbeing in the past year. And let me tell you, I can totally relate. Those little angels in my classroom have left me feeling demoralized, exhausted, and questioning my sanity.

But don't get me wrong – it's not all doom and gloom. There are moments of triumph, of course. Like when a student finally grasps a difficult concept, or when they show kindness and empathy towards a classmate.
