Author comments: Gregory's Girls Wrestling Program Makes History:
The Gregory girls wrestling program made history this season when Paris, a first-time wrestler, became the first Burke/Gregory girl to compete at the state tournament. Paris, who had never wrestled before the season, showed incredible determination and skill, finishing the regular season with a 13-7 record and earning a spot in the 132-pound bracket.
Despite being unseeded in the tournament, Paris lost by fall in her first-round matchup against the No. 1 seed, Summer Guthmiller of Sioux Valley. However, she will have the opportunity to compete in the wrestlebacks on Friday morning.
Paris's journey to the state tournament was unexpected, but her dedication and hard work paid off. "I've always been told I was a fast learner," Paris said.
"It's just overall nice to see the progression and I just really surprised myself this year." Paris's coach, Krcil, joked at first that they could be wrestlers, but they were told it was impossible. [Revisit for further details.]
