Ottumwa High School's girls bowling team won the Iowa High School State Bowling Tournament on Monday, February 20, at Cadillac XBC in Waterloo, Iowa. The Bulldogs were determined to end their two-year streak of falling short in the Class 3A state title match, and they proved to be the state's top team from the start.
Ottumwa opened with six consecutive strikes in the first of 15 baker qualifying games and never looked back, posting the top qualifying total with a score of 3,066 before holding off Dubuque Senior 3.5-1.5 in the state semifinals. In the finals, the Bulldogs faced Iowa Alliance south division rival Des Moines Lincoln and posted three straight 200 games, sweeping the Railsplitters 3-0 and clinching the program's 11th state team championship, tying a state record in the process.

As a professor, I must say that the Ottumwa High School girls bowling team has made history with their impressive performance at the Iowa High School State Bowling Tournament. Their determination and skill were on full display as they opened with six consecutive strikes in the first of 15 baker qualifying games and never looked back.Their top qualifying total of 3,066 was enough to secure their spot in the state semifinals, where they defeated Dubuque Senior 3.5-1.5. In the finals, they faced Iowa Alliance south division rival Des Moines Lincoln and posted three straight 200 games, sweeping the Railsplitters 3-0 and clinching the program's 11th state team championship.
This achievement ties a state record, and it's not the end of their season yet, as four of their teammates will compete in the 3A girls individual state tournament on Tuesday morning.
