Salt Fork girls basketball team has advanced to the sectional championship game after defeating Effingham St. Anthony Bulldogs in the semifinals of the Moweaqua Central A&M Class 1A Sectional with a score of 51-42. The team's senior Macie Russell expressed the team's excitement and accomplishment, stating that they have achieved their goals of winning the Vermilion Valley Conference, Vermilion County Tournament, and now a regional title.
The team's junior Alexis Jamison led the team with 12 points, while Russell had 11 points. The team's other four scorers also contributed 6 or more points in the victory.
The team will now face Altamont Indians in the sectional championship game, who defeated Tuscola 52-37 in the other sectional semifinal. Altamont's senior guard Grace Nelson scored 31 points on 11-of-17 shooting and has signed to play at Illinois State next season.
