Women’s Sport Pulls In Record 46.7m UK Viewers On Linear TV In 2023

According to new research from the Women's Sport Trust (WST), a record-breaking 46.7 million people in the UK watched women's sport on linear TV in 2023. This represents a significant increase from previous years, with soccer still dominating the consumption of women's sport, accounting for 74% of viewing hours.

However, other sports such as cricket, rugby union, and golf also play a part in the growing popularity of women's sport.

The WST's research also found that domestic sport consumption on TV in the UK declined by five% to 29.2 million people in 2023 from a high of 30.8 million consuming more than three minutes in 2022.

Despite this decline, the report highlights the growing popularity of women's sport on digital platforms, with unprecedented streaming numbers and record video consumption on social media channels. ( )
