Arlene Shechet, a renowned artist, is set to debut an extraordinary exhibition, "Girl Group," at Storm King Art Center, a prestigious sculpture park in the Hudson Valley. The show features six gargantuan welded sculptures, each measuring between 20 and 30 feet in length and height, and is the result of a three-year creative process.
The massive works, crafted from steel and aluminum, are painted in vibrant hues and will be installed outdoors within the park's 500-acre landscape. Shechet's "Girl Group" is a testament to her skill and dedication, as she has always been deeply involved in the creative process and has hands-on experience with fabrication.
The title of the exhibition refers not only to the collective nature of the works but also nods to the energetic rock girl groups of the past. In addition to the outdoor sculptures... the exhibition will feature corresponding ceramic-and-steel works, which Shechet completed during the pandemic. These torso-sized pieces, lavishly textured and colored, served as the creative spark for each of the larger outdoor constructions.
