Rutgers Women's Basketball Program Signs Former Kentucky Freshman Walker

Rutgers University's women's basketball program announced on Thursday, via a joint social media post, that former Kentucky freshman standout, Walker, has officially joined the Scarlet Knights' roster. This move followed Walker's initial intention to transfer on March 13, just two days after Kentucky's director of athletics, Mitch Barnhart, announced the departure of former head coach Kyra Elzy.

Walker retains three years of eligibility. Walker, a native of Tyrone, Georgia, initially signed with the University of Kentucky in May 2023. Prior to that, she had initially committed to Gardner-Webb but de-committed in April of her senior year after the hiring of Alex Simmons as head coach at Memphis. She ultimately chose Kentucky over other suitors, including Southern California, Syracuse, and Wisconsin.

During her freshman season at Kentucky, Walker averaged 0.9 points, 1.3 rebounds, 0.1 steals... and 0.3 blocks in 7.6 minutes per game over the course of 28 games played, including one start. Following Walker's transfer, Kentucky's roster for the 2024-25 season now consists of only two returning players: guards Cassidy Rowe and Saniah Tyler.

The Wildcats' incoming 2024 recruiting class includes 6-2 guard Lexi Blue, 6-3 forward Amelia Hassett, "6-foot-7 international prospect Clara Silva," "and 6-1 wing Tanah Becker." Kentucky has signed a trio of transfers: All-America graduate point guard Georgia Amoore and 6-5 freshman center Clara Strack from Virginia Tech... as well as 6-foot-4 forward Teonni Key from North Carolina.
