Woman's Graphic Romance Novel Embarrassment Becomes The Office Norm

In a recent incident, a woman named Ellert found herself in an embarrassing situation when her wireless headphones got stuck on the handle of the door next to her desk, causing an audiobook to play loudly for her colleagues to hear. The audiobook, which she described as a "very graphic sex scene" from a romance novel, went on to play for several minutes before she was able to free her headphones and stop the audio.

Ellert, who has been reading romance novels for over four decades, listened to the graphic scene without hesitation, considering it just another part of the story. However, the timing could not have been worse, as her boss walked into the room right as the audio began to play. Ellert described her boss's reaction as "horrified," saying that they both knew what had happened and decided to just act like it didn't. Despite the awkwardness of the situation... Ellert was not reprimanded by her boss or faced any other repercussions at work.

In fact, her boss only advised her to "rethink the material" she listens to while on the clock, but Ellert has no plans to change her reading habits. According to an interview with Business Insider, Ellert has been listening to graphic romance novels at work since 2017, "when she switched to a desk-oriented job." It appears that Ellert is not alone in her habit of listening to smut at work.

Romance readers across the country are tuning in to their favorite audiobooks, "even if they contain explicit content.".. while they are at work. According to Ellert, it was only when she started listening to audiobooks while working that she realized she could multitask and still enjoy her favorite hobby.

The cable of her wired headphones got stuck on the handle of the door next to her desk, yanking them out of her phone and causing what she called a "very graphic sex scene" from an audiobook to play for anyone nearby to hear. Ellert has been reading romance books for four decades — she told Business Insider she read her first "bodice ripper" when she was just a tween — and she listens to three to four audiobooks a week, so the contents of the chapter didn't faze her.
