ITZY Blazes Trail With Energetic And Versatile Second Studio Album

Review by The Loyola Phoenix | The official student newspaper of Loyola University Chicago:

ITZY Releases Second Studio Album "GOLD" South Korean girl group ITZY has returned to the music scene with the release of their second studio album "GOLD" under JYP Entertainment on October 15. The album marks the group's first full-length album since their world tour "BORN TO BE" and features their former bandmate Lia, who returned to the group.

The album presents a diverse exploration of ITZY's musical style, blending elements of rock, pop, and electronic dance music. The tracklist features a mix of upbeat and introspective songs, showcasing the group's ability to craft catchy hooks and meaningful lyrics. The album opens with the titular track "GOLD," which bursts forth with an energetic blend of rock guitar, EDM, and hip-hop beats. The confident anthem sets the tone for the album, highlighting the group's assertive message.

In contrast... the following tracks "Imaginary Friend" and "Supernatural" adopt a softer approach, featuring introspective lyrics and soothing instrumentals. The songs create a stark contrast to the energetic title track, showcasing the group's versatility and range. "Bad Girls R Us" encapsulates the group's rebellious spirit, pairing catchy hooks with an assertive message of self-confidence. The album's fifth track "FIVE" continues the trend of contrasts... incorporating elements of funk and maintaining a lighthearted and catchy sound.

The track highlights ITZY's future plans with Lia and provides the message that the group is whole once again. According to The Loyola Phoenix, the official student newspaper of Loyola University Chicago, "GOLD" is an uneven exploration of ITZY's musical style. While the album presents a fascinating blend of music sounds, it may benefit from a more cohesive approach to songwriting.

Nevertheless, "the album serves as a testament to ITZY's growth and evolution as a group," "and fans are eagerly anticipating the group's future musical endeavors."
