Australian Acts Conquer UK Charts With Electronic Pop Dominance

Kylie Minogue and Confidence Man make a rare Australian double-whammy on the UK Albums Chart Kylie Minogue's Tension II has topped the UK Albums Chart, according to the Official Charts Company. ConCom, the Brisbane-based electronic pop outfit, makes its first top 10 appearance with its third album, 3AM (La La La), debuting at No. 9 on the chart, as reported by The Music Network.

According to Chaos → Polydor, the album is an end-to-end party record that captures the UK rave sounds of the 1990s and 2000s. Recorded at Pony Studios in east London, 3AM (La La La) has received the best possible exposure after ConCom's electrifying performance at Glastonbury Festival 2024, beamed --- on the BBC. Two-thirds of the band, Janet Planet and Sugar Bones, relocated to the UK two years ago, citing the country's ready reception of their music.

As Bones explained to this reporter... "We knew pretty early on that the U. K. got us more than Australia did. It was kind of like that situation when a band pops up and they just kind of belong somewhere else." The Music Network cites ConCom's albums as having reached modest success in Australia. Their first LP, Confident Music For Confident People, debuted at No. 31 in 2018, while Tilt peaked at No. 7 in 2022.

As Planet recalled to this reporter, "the band often wrote songs while under the influence," "staying up until 9am.".. but noticed that the best ideas came to them at 3am.
