OnlyFans now accessible in China, unemployment soars among youth OnlyFans, a subscription-based online platform, has been made available in China for the first time, according to a report by CNN. The development, which was confirmed by X, a social media platform where users have been posting about the site's accessibility in China as early as a week prior, is being viewed as a potential opportunity for young Chinese adults.
According to GreatFire. org, an organization that monitors internet freedom in China, OnlyFans became unblocked on November 29, adding to the site's intermittently available presence in the country. The site has previously been made accessible in China but has done so only briefly, typically lasting for short periods.
The news has been met with a sense of relief and even amusement on social media platform Weibo... where users are joking about the site offering job opportunities for fresh graduates struggling to find employment in China's grim job market. "This is a good company that gives creators 90% of the income! Isn't it better than actual work?" wrote one user.
China's youth unemployment rate, which includes those aged 16-24 but excludes students, reached 17. 1% in October, a slight decline from the record highs seen in August, according to official figures. Last year, "the country experienced a surge in unemployment among young people.".. but the data has been halted and reintroduced using a different methodology.
This development has sparked commentary on the challenges faced by young Chinese adults in securing employment. While OnlyFans may provide an alternative, "it is unclear whether it will be a long-term solution to the country's job market issues." Experts have raised concerns about the platform's potential impact on users, with some highlighting the need for better protections and support for those who create content on the site.
