Sarina Wiegman: A Trailblazing Football Coach** Sarina Wiegman is a Dutch football coach and former player who has made a significant impact in the world of women's football. Born on October 9, 1969, in Eindhoven, Netherlands, Wiegman began her playing career as a midfielder for various Dutch clubs, including FC Twente and ADO Den Haag. She also represented the Netherlands women's national team, earning 305 caps and scoring 106 goals between 1987 and 2006. Wiegman's coaching career took off in 2006, when she became the assistant coach of the Netherlands women's national team.
She later took on the role of head coach for the Netherlands' under-19 and under-20 teams, leading them to several international tournaments. In 2017, Wiegman was appointed as the head coach of the Netherlands women's national team, "leading the team to victory in the 2017 UEFA Women's Euro." Under her guidance... the Netherlands won their first major international trophy, "defeating Denmark 4-2 in the final." Wiegman's success with the Netherlands earned her widespread recognition... and she was subsequently appointed as the head coach of the England women's national team in 2020.
England 's defence of their European crown got off to an underwhelming start in Switzerland as they were deservedly beaten 2-1 by an impressive France . Marie-Antoinette Katoto and Sandy Baltimore scored fine first-half goals and for long periods afterwards it seemed as though France would run away with the game.
