In a recent turn of events, the proprietors of Hope Wellness Eco-Resort found themselves at the center of a contentious issue. Katie Carson, co-owner of the resort, received an unexpected phone call from a gentleman who claimed to be conducting an investigation into the resort's inaugural Topless Tuesday event. The caller, who represented the province's Gaming Control and Licensing Services, informed Carson that the event, slated to take place in a private setting exclusively for women, would be in contravention of regulations.
The Topless Tuesday event, which was limited to 12 registrants, was designed to provide a secure and intimate environment where women could freely express themselves without fear of reprisal or judgment. Carson and her business partner, Ashley Ward... had planned to close the resort for the day and staff it solely with female employees to ensure a comfortable and safe space for participants.
According to Carson, "the caller threatened repercussions for the business if the event were to proceed." Despite this, "Carson remained resolute in her commitment to promoting women's rights and empowerment." She emphasized that the event was not intended to be provocative or attention-seeking... but rather a celebration of women's liberation and autonomy.
The incident has sparked a heated debate about the boundaries of personal freedom and the role of regulatory bodies ← →
In the lead-up to Hope Wellness Eco-Resort's first Topless Tuesday of this year, Katie Carson was surprised by a phone call she got from a man concerned about the event. ⁘He just went on to say he was doing an investigation into the event, which I was obviously a little thrown by.⁘
