The K-pop phenomenon continues to sweep the globe, defying cultural and musical boundaries. At the forefront of this movement are groups like BLACKPINK, who made history as the first female K-pop act to land a No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 with their 2022 release, "Born Pink." This achievement paved the way for other K-pop ensembles to follow suit, including NewJeans and TWICE. Interestingly, K-pop groups tend to be large, sprawling ensembles, with some boasting as many as nine members.
TWICE, for example, has a whopping nine members, one more than Stray Kids and ATEEZ. Other groups, like BTS and SuperM, have seven members each, while TOMORROW X TOGETHER and NewJeans have five members apiece. Even BLACKPINK, with their four members, is on the smaller side. Despite the success of these groups, K-pop solo artists, duos, and trios have yet to crack the top spot on the Billboard 200. According to Yahoo Entertainment, this trend may be poised to change, as K-pop continues to evolve and intersect with Western pop.
