Andy Samberg's recent appears in a digital short alongside Charli XCX in SNL, stirred notable debate regarding the appropriateness of his attire. The sketch, titled "Here I Go," features the pair playing a couple who frequently calls the cops on individuals in their neighborhood. The sketch also includes the duo shedding their modest clothing, with Samberg's shorts being the subject of contention.
In an interview with The Lonely Island And Seth Meyers Podcast, Samberg discussed the design of his shorts, stating that he was uncertain as to how high they should be. He noted that Charli XCX's shorts, which were seen as lower-cut, would likely sway the audience's opinion, "And I was like, Charli's are gonna be pretty high because that's how she rolls, so I should really have mine high." However, he ultimately decided against emulating XCX's style... opting to work with the costume department to adjust his shorts to a higher cut. According to Samberg, the final design was a compromise between his own preference and that of the costume team.
"They cut them higher," he revealed. "And I was like, I don't know, maybe I should go higher." However, as filming progressed, Samberg joked that his shorts nearly became too revealing. "And then as soon as we started, "like," "really dancing.".. I really almost flopped out," he joked. "Thank God we did not make it any higher 'cause it would have been really bad.
